FELTED PUMPKIN BASKET (1 lesson) $35 + materials

Monday, October 3 , 6 – 8 pm

Create a pumpkin shaped basket on two circular needles.  Learn a method of increasing and decrease that gives the pumpkin its shape.  (While not really “Christmas,” it is a good idea to get a jump-start for Halloween/Thanksgiving.)   Pre-requisite: Beginning Knitting or equivalent skills.

 

“ROCK ON” SWEATER (1 lesson) $35 + materials

Monday, Oct 3, 6 – 8 pm

Learn to knit an unusual cardigan – lots of texture.  Pre-requisite: Beginning Knitting or equivalent skills.

SOCKS ON TWO CIRCULARS (2 lessons), $45 + materials

Mondays, Oct. 10 & 17, 10 – 12 noon

Put away your double-pointed needles!  Participants learn to join a round, to knit a small tube on two circular needles, (also handy for sleeves and necks!), to turn a heel, and to close a toe with Kitchener stitch.  Pre-requisite: Beginning Knitting or equivalent skills.

 

CHRISTMAS STOCKING (2 lessons), $45 + materials

Mondays, Oct. 10 & 17, 6 – 8 pm 

Knitting a large stocking to be used at Christmas time is a bit different from knitting a regular pair of socks.  Come learn how to knit either a Lacy-Topper Stocking or a Tailored-Look Stocking.  Or maybe incorporate some cables.  Learn how to personalize the stocking with duplicate stitch.  Pre-requisite: Beginning Knitting or equivalent skills.

 

SPA WASHCLOTH (1 lesson), $35 + materials

Monday, Oct. 10, 6 – 8 pm

Create a linen spa washcloth using hand-dyed linen.  These cloths get softer and softer with time but still exfoliate your skin.  What a luxurious gift for a friend or yourself!  Excellent gift – add a personalized soap to make it special.  Pre-requisite: Beginning Knitting or equivalent skills.

 

MITTENS/FINGERLESS GLOVES (2 lessons), $45 + materials

Wednesdays, Oct. 12 & 19, 6 – 8 pm 

Keep those fingers warm by knitting a fingerless glove that becomes a mitten.  Learn to knit in the round with 2 circular needles, how to divide for the thumb and fingers, and to knit the popover that turns the fingerless gloves into mittens.  Don’t want the combined feature, these can be knit as either fingerless gloves or mittens.  Pre-requisite: Beginning Knitting or equivalent skills.

 

CARRY ALONG BAG (1 lesson) $35 + materials

Wednesday, Oct. 12, 6 – 8 pm

Learn to knit a cute bag you can use when you’re walking around knitting on your socks or it can be used as a small purse if walking around knitting is not quite your bag.  Skills used include wrap and turn short rows, kitchner stitch for seaming, picking up stitches, bind off buttonholes, and the every popular I-Cord.   Pre-requisite: Beginning Knitting or equivalent skills.

 

BASIC POLYMER (1 lesson) $60 (materials provided)

Friday, Oct. 14, 6 – 9 pm

To learn how to manipulate polymer clay to create unique buttons to match your knitted garment.  You design 5-8 buttons, which will be baked and be all ready to sew on to your sweater.

 

TEA COZY (1 lesson) $35 + materials

Saturday, Oct. 15, 2 – 4 pm

Come enjoy a ‘cuppa’ as you learn to create a cozy for that teapot or maybe for your favorite mug.  The ribbed cozy is easy and practicable, easy to fit to a variety of teapots.  The cable cozy is an elegant cover for your teapot (just about any size) at your garden party this spring.  (Bring in your teapot or mug to get assistance in custom fitting your particular item.)  Pre-requisite:  Beginning knitting, or equivalent skills.

 

MARKET BAG (1 lesson) $35 + materials

Sunday, Oct. 16, 2 – 4 pm

Reduce your carbon footprint – knit a MARKET BAG to use when you go shopping!  Learn to pick up stitches using a crochet hook, knit in the round and produce this very useful bag.  Easy and impressive – all your friends will want one!  HOMEWORK REQUIRED – stop by The Yarn Barn to get your yarn and info about 1 week prior to class.  Pre-requisite: Beginning Knitting or equivalent skills.

 

MITERED SQUARES (1 lesson), $35 + materials

Sunday, Oct. 16, 2 – 4 pm

Learn the art of knitting mitered squares to create a great vest.  Pre-requisite:  Beginning knitting, or equivalent skills.

BEGINNING CROCHET (5 lessons), $70 + materials

Thursdays, Oct. 20 – Nov. 17, 6 – 8 pm

Learn crochet to embellish knitted garments or create crocheted items.  Participants learn to chain, single crochet, and double crochet, as they crochet a granny square and a woven-effect scarf.  No pre-requisite skills required.  Come all!

 

BEGINNING KNITTING (5 lessons), $70 + materials

Mondays, Oct. 24 – Nov. 21, 10 – 12 noon

Learn everything you need to know to create your own knitted garments.  Participants learn to cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease, cable, bind off, pick up stitches for neck, and seam pieces together.  No pre-requisite skills required.  Come all!

 

CRAZY EIGHT PURSE (1 lesson) $30 + materials

Wednesday, Oct. 26, 6 – 8 pm

Participants learn to make a small seed stitch purse with a loopy-fringed top.  Great gift that is easy, fun and quick to knit.  Skills taught include:  Seed Stitch, Loop Stitch, 3-needle Bind Off, and I-Cord. Pattern included.  Pre-requisite: Beginning Knitting or equivalent skills.

 

CROCHET WORKSHOP    $5

BEYOND BASIC POLYMER (1 lesson) $60 (materials provided)

Friday, Oct. 28, 6 – 9 pm

Once you know how to create basic buttons with polymer clay, come learn some advance techniques.  Once again your completed items will be baked and ready to take home with you.  Pre-requisite: Beginner Polymer or equivalent skills.

 

CLAPOTIS (1 lesson), $45 + materials

Monday, Oct. 31, 6 – 8 pm

Learn how to make this diagonal shawl that incorporates a dropped stitch as part of the enchanting design.  Pre-requisite: Beginning Knitting or equivalent skills.

Register by calling the shop at (703)-978-2220.  Confirm and guarantee your slot by paying with a credit card over the phone, or by bringing or sending a check or cash to the store.  Please note that class fees are non-refundable.  Every effort is made to schedule you into another class or to meet with you at workshop for a make-up, if necessary.  NOTE:  During winter months, we follow Fairfax County Public Schools in regard to opening late or not at all.
